Bin Laden High School (Episode 29)

October 30, 2017 by David Meigs

Episode 29 has dropped and we are clearly making friends this week! What if a high school in a predominantly Muslim community in the US was called Osama Bin Laden High School? Would you send you children there?  James, Brad and David discuss this explosive question and reflect on our own preference for Americanized names and gut reaction to any name connected with extremist Muslim terrorism.  We explore why so many of us have an immediate visceral reaction to the name and how that plays into our nationalism as a country.  Why are we ok with schools and monuments named after Confederate leaders but not Muslim ones? Does freedom of religion truly exist in this country, or are there glaring limits to this freedom? With the creation of Jim Crow Laws, lynching, and the countless policies and barriers poured out on our black brothers and sisters, why is this country so quick to forget our own participation in terror against the black community, fighting to keep their status as second class citizens?

Throw the Pastor in the Pool (Episode 26)

September 17, 2017 by David Meigs

Do you know what kind of music your pastor listens to? Who takes care of our pastors and helps them not burn out? What does it feel like knowing hundreds of people look to you for spiritual guidance. Episode 26 takes an intimate look behind the curtain of the life of pastors and church leaders.  We interview Mike Dixon, head pastor of Ekklesia Hattiesburg, Brad Corbin, head pastor of Court Street Methodist in Hattiesburg, and Sarah Hill, past president of a Christian sorority at Oklahoma State University.  We hope this episode will help you better understand how we can support and empathize with our faith leaders.

Jake Krumwiede (Episode 25)

September 04, 2017 by David Meigs

Episode 25 features our good friend Jake Krumwiede of Claremore, OK. We have all known Jake for years, and asked him on to talk about running the Will Rogers Memorial Museum, being a real life Clint Eastwood, and navigating life after divorce. We reflect on the crazy times we had as kids, and Jake peels back the curtain on the utter isolation of divorce and speaks to the pitiful response of Christians and the church in his time of need.  We also talk about getting married early, the power of communication, love languages and self awareness in marriage.

How do we love on someone through an experience like divorce? How do churches respond? We explore these questions and more.

Find out more about what Jake is doing at Will Rogers Memorial here.
